Day Eight

Today's words:
sentry
noun
faith
holiday
rash
fertilizer

There's a new sentry
Outside the palace gate. Still as a noun
He stands guard, sure in his faith
In king and country. He never takes a holiday
Or does anything rash.
His actions are no fertilizer

For village gossip. Not that anyone needs fertilizer
To encourage speculation about the new sentry.
Was his hiring a rash
Act on the King's part? Or perhaps another noun
Was involved, something relating to the Queen's recent holiday
Alone and far from the guardians of her faith.

But the people cling to their faith
That King and Queen will continue to act as fertilizer
For our prosperity.  We'll still go on holiday,
Knowing that they will stand sentry
Over every noun
That populates our country, and that no rash

Deeds will trouble our peace. One year there was a stinging rash
That afflicted many. It was found to be caused by a lack of faith
In our King's wisdom. Ever since then the noun
"Doubt" has been purged, lest it act as fertilizer
For more sickness. That's why there's a new sentry
And the Queen no longer takes holiday

Alone. For what kind of holiday
Is that - left unattended, exposed to rash
Temptations of every sort? No, our rulers need a sentry
To protect them, and guard their faith,
Lest our country become mere fertilizer
For some other empire, and our land just another common noun

In the dictionary of lost places, no more a proper noun
Enhanced with its capital at the start. Like a secular holiday
Versus a religious one, just as our doubt was fertilizer
For that angry rash
That tested our faith
And demanded this new sentry.

We'll never mention that noun again; we won't do anything rash.
Every day is a holiday celebrating the faith
That acts as fertilizer for our safety, guarded by the watchful sentry.

Comment: "Noun" two days in a row?  I guess that is random, but ugh!
