Day Ninety-seven

Today's words:
Blister
USA
Fireworks
Rebel
Caterpillar
Locust

Despite a painful blister,
The runner for Team USA
Crossed the finish line just as the fireworks
Began. He was a rebel
From way back, less a caterpillar
Than a locust,

Devouring everything in his path, and, like the locust,
Leaving nothing behind. He applied a poultice to his blister
And curled up like a caterpillar.
He was proud to be a part of Team USA,
Proud of his rebel
Heritage, and proud of the fireworks

That greeted him on arrival, like fireworks
For the Fourth of July. He brushed a locust
From his shoulder, and pushed a rebel
Strand of hair behind an ear. That blister
Was starting to be painful, even as he shrugged on his Team USA
Jacket, snuggling like a caterpillar.

And just as a caterpillar
Becomes a butterfly, so fireworks
Herald the arrival of Team USA.
Perhaps the locust
Can eat the fungus blister
On the corn while the farmers rebel

Against the tyranny of Big Agriculture. Let them rebel
By turning to older methods, like setting a caterpillar
To fashion a protective blister
Over a new shoot, or using fireworks,
Not GMOs, to keep the locust
At bay. The USA

Was created by people, not corporations, and that's how the USA
Should be run today, by people who are not afraid to rebel
Against the corporation that, like a locust,
Seeks to devour everything the people have. Better to be a caterpillar
Transforming into a butterfly then to be singed by fireworks
That leave a blister.

Farmers of the USA! Ride your Caterpillar
Tractors over Big Agriculture! Rebel against it with fireworks
And leave the locust to nurse its blister.
