Day Seventy-one

Today's words:
Brick
Runway
Race
Game
Exam
Barrel

A brick
In the middle of the runway
Caused our flight to be delayed. Well, we'll miss the start of the race
I guess, but it's only a game.
It's not like it's an exam
Or anything, and easy as shooting fish in a barrel,

As you say. When we landed, I saw a barrel
Of fuel next to the plane, with a brick
On top of it. Has anyone ever thought to give an exam
Of this practice? It could be how one wound up on our runway
Putting us out of the game
Because we missed the start of the race.

I watched the race
From the sidelines, sitting on a barrel.
It seemed like a good game,
Until someone threw a brick
Onto the runway.
An exam

Could catch who did it. The exam
Stopped the race
For a while as they scoured the runway
Carrying a barrel
In search of a sign of the brick-
Thrower who'd interrupted the game.

They resumed the game
After their exam
Revealed that the brick
Had been thrown by someone who'd been late for the race.
It had come from a barrel
Near the runway.

Now we waited on the runway
To leave after the end if the game.
They opened the barrel
At customs, but their exam
Revealed only memorabilia of the race.
They didn't find the brick.

Before taxiing down the runway, it's good first to conduct an exam
Of the surface, lest someone think it's a game to delay the race
By blocking things with a barrel or a brick.
